"Peonies"

"Peonies" was inspired by the season of June and the abundance of peonies growing in my garden. I wanted to capture the full, blooming nature of the flower, focusing on the depth and shadows within the form. The strong pink, purple and red hues are made more extravagant due to the use of a dark block colour background, I did this to guide the viewers eye to the flowers and focus their attention on the colour. I also composed three bulbs in this piece, two blooming and one that is more premature and yet to bloom, I specifically placed these as though they were free flowing through the petals to give them a more coherent look.
